Background removal
Background removal separates the product from its background so it can be placed on white, on transparency or in a new scene.
Also called: cut-out · clipping path
It used to be done by hand with a clipping path — a precise outline drawn around the product. Today most cut-outs are made by segmentation models, with a retoucher fixing fine edges like hair, fringe and sheer fabric.
A clean cut-out is the first step towards both a marketplace packshot and a composite on a new set.
